Checklist your way to productivity

I don’t know any freelancer that doesn’t want (or need) to be more productive. And even though I’m well organized (hubby would say obsessively so) and highly productive, I’m constantly looking for tips, tools and techniques to manage my time better.

Which is why I follow and engage with other freelancers I admire, like Linda Formichelli, Daphne Gray-Grant, Kim Stacey and Lori Murray.

In fact, it was Daphne’s #3 idea on this list that got me blogging more regularly.

How?

She inspired me to create my own checklist of things to do every day without fail. One of the items on my 6-point list (I’m obviously not the overachiever that Daphne is) is to spend 20 minutes writing for the blog. Just 20 minutes in the morning before the day gets away from me.

And you know what? I’m finding that 9 times out of 10 I finish the post. Not only am I getting more done, I’m feeling better about bringing value to my readers.

You know, FlyLady employs this simple technique, too, with her Control Journal.

Your turn:

  1. Make a list of just a few things you’d like to get done every day.
  2. Post it in your office (or wherever you’ll see it).
  3. Tick through the list before you do anything else.
  4. Don’t strive for perfection. Just check off as many as you can as many work days as possible.
